Pain Mechanism Theories: From Gates to Predictive Coding

Understanding pain can be challenging, and using models or theories can simplify the complex. When treating people who have persistent pain, having a framework to reference is imperative, informative, and supports clinical reasoning. What is the gate control theory? Who introduced the neuromatrix? And what does Bayesian statistical modeling have to do with pain? This Pop-Up course will take a historic view of pain mechanism theories from the 1960s forward and briefly discuss the underpinnings of chronic pain in terms of theoretical models.
